Statement of Significance
One of the earliest recorded sites of European settlement outside Melbourne and of major historical significance for early colonial settlement in Victoria. Listed in 1841 census as a wattle and daub hut with ten inhabitants.

EDWARD WILLIS HUT AND SHEEP RUN (1837-41) - Heritage Inventory Description
Area of grasslands, weeds and indigenous vegetation along Plenty River, sloping up to boundary of Heidelberg Golf Club to south and Old Lower Plenty Road to the north-west, containing possible substructure remains from wattle and daub hut listed in 1841 census.
The likely site of the hit has been generally identified in Map A of the McBriar report 1986. This has been expanded by Lucy Ellem of La Trobe University in terms of possible substructure remains of the hut.
