Originally created as the Milawa co-operative dairy (1890) then used as the Milawa Butter Factory.FORMER MILAWA CO-OPERATIVE DAIRY - Archaeological Significance
The former Milawa co-operative dairy site is significant as one of the better preserved examples of the late 19th century co-operative dairy establishments (Coulthard 1993), and is unsurveyed. The site therefore has the potential for the remains of earlier archaeological structures, and further detailed survey and excavation may reveal the layout and plan of some of these; contributing to a better understanding of the development of co-operative dairying in the north east at the end of the 19th century.

The former Milawa co-operative dairy site is significant as one of the better preserved examples of the late 19th century co-operative dairy establishments (Coulthard 1993) around the north east, which also included the Kiewa Butter Factory.
FORMER MILAWA CO-OPERATIVE DAIRY - Interpretation of Site
The site comprises a range of extant building features dating to the period of the 1980s and later, including sheds, dairy and tanks, most of which have been renovated or updated into and utilised as modern commercial premises; cafe/restaurant included.
