Statement of Cultural Significance
The General Store, Ocean Grove was built in the 1890s by Mr T Pescott, a local builder. The original fabric is believed to be underneath the current facade and extensions.
It is of social and historic significance to the local Ocean Grove community.
The General Store, located on the Terrace, Ocean Groves main street, has been serving the local community since the 1890s. The store was central to the permanent community of Ocean Grove and to the summer visitors. It was extensively altered in the 1930s.
It is of LOCAL cultural significance.

General Store - Physical Description 1
Description
This site is a purpose built building, with a north east corner angled doorway. The original general store is believed to be underneath the current facade and extensions. It is a timber framed,white painted weatherboard clad structure. The gable roof, recently reclad with green tiles, has a projecting gable on the north east corner. It has a short red brick chimney on the east slope of the gable, towards the rear, possibly defining the extension to the original store J. The north and east elevation have a corrugated iron clad verandah that features a spayed corner return above the spayed entry. The north elevation has a prominent gable with plain bargeboards, decorative timber shingles and two small windows. The projecting prominent north gable end has plain bargeboards, timber shingles and struts as decoration, and fibro cladding.
The east elevation on Hodgeson St has two display windows, a small central window and a large window towards the south corner, all timber framed.
