Statement of Significance
The house at 85 McPherson Street, Essendon, was built in 1890 for Thomas William Armistead. It is aesthetically important (Criterion E) as one of the larger villas of the locality having an unusual plan form expressed with exceptional timber ornamentation to the windows and roof and demonstrating that timber construction was the equal of masonry for its capacity to express the flamboyance of the Land Boom period.
