How is it significant?
The Moreland Station Precinct is of local historical and architectural significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
The Moreland Station Precinct is of local historical significance for its capacity to demonstrate, through the conjunction of the railway elements and the surrounding housing on small allotments, the role of the railways in encouraging speculative development in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
The Moreland Station Precinct is of local architectural significance as a representative example of the pattern of subdivision and building which occurred in subdivisions stimulated by the arrival of the railway in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Notable architectural styles include detached 19th century villas and cottages, predominately of timber construction. The precinct displays a moderate level of integrity, and comprises a representative range of predominately Victorian, Edwardian and some Inter-War housing, generally modest in scale. Jessie Street comprises a combination of these styles, including a small number of 19th Century brick terrace pairs.
Non-Contributory properties include:
Audley Street: 3.
Jessie Street: 2-2A, 3, 5 and 7.

Gandolfo GardensThe Moreland Station Precinct comprises the Moreland Railway Station and surrounds, and the residential streets to its immediate west. The railway station and Gandolfo Gardens form the focus of the Precinct. The houses in Station Street are generally detached 19th century villas and cottages, predominantly of timber construction. Jessie Street, which terminates at the five-storey cream brick John Fawkner Hospital, comprises a combination of Victorian, Edwardian and inter-War houses, including a small number of 19th century brick terrace pairs. Of particular architectural note in the Precinct are American Cottage at 21 Station Street, the two-storey brick terraces at 222-238 and 241-253 Moreland Road, Moreland Hall, 26 Jessie Street.
The landscape character of the southern end of Station Street is derived from the mature plantings in Gandolfo Gardens, although street planting in Jessie Street is of natives, including Callistemon Most of the private gardens are small, with little original planting. The row of Cupressus sempervirens in Jessie Street, however, is particularly important. Few of the houses have vehicle crossings. Traditional street elements retained include asphalt footpaths and bluestone kerbs and gutters in Jessie Street.
