CLUNES DRAINS - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: Council minutes show that drain construction began in central business district - Fraser Street - in c. 1862 and system was extended to remaining portion of town until c. 19890Heritage Inventory Description
CLUNES DRAINS - Heritage Inventory Description
Open street drains made of dressed and undressed basalt. Open bluestone drains appear to occur on every street in Clunes south of the creek. The greater majority observed are assembled in bluestone blocks or possibly a sandstone block in some instances to various depths and configurations. The cross-sections are formed by a floor of shaped pavers and the walls may be a continuation of pavers, a mixture of shaped and unshaped blocks, or simply irregular naturally shaped cobbles, all without any form of binding.
