RANELLONE 1 - HOMESTEAD SITE - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: Allotment 87C originally purchased by James Cogan in 1864. In 1869 he sold the allotment to Charles Caolwell, possibly a relative. House listed in shire rate books from 1871 - possibly the stone hut. Chris Johnston suggests a larger house may have been built in the late 1870's when the value of the property increased sharply. Nino Ranellone, the current owner, demolished the farmhouse in the 1970's and has extensively modified the stone building. He has built stockyards and a shearing shed over the site
RANELLONE 1 - HOMESTEAD SITE - Interpretation of Site
Heritage Inventory Interpretation: Site is the remains of a farm complex dating from 1860's - 1890's. With the exception of the stone cottage, there is little remaining of the original buildings due to the construction of stock yards and shearing shed. Site has been too modified to provide a good or intact example of a nineteenth century homestead.
