GREIG 1 - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: Allotment 87A purchased by James Cogan in 1864. Buildings had been constructed by 1874, the farmhouse may date from 1884.
GREIG 1 - Interpretation of Site
Heritage Inventory Interpretation: Remains of late nineteenth & twentieth century farm complex comprising footings of house, outbuildings & associated vegetation. Farmhouse footings appear to be partly removed although some in situ deposit could survive on western side of footings. Site contains material evidence of the development of farming in the district after the 1860s (dairying) and reflects the process of rural settlement after the goldrush.

Group of thirteen identified structural & vegetation features, which are remains of a nineteenth century farm complex known as the Grieg property.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Local significance - Site of local historical importance as one of a no of surviving examples in the local area of a late nineteenth century farm complex
Recorded by: David Rhodes & Helen Cekalovic Date Recorded: 23 April 1998 Heritage Inventory Site Features: F1 - Four lines of stones forming a rectangular enclosure, possibly footings. Cement slab in NW corner 15.30m x 8.50m.F2 - Footings of weatherboard farmhouse, bluestone, covering an area of approx 10m x 15mF3 - Weatherboard shed, internal walls lined with beaded pine, cement floor, cream separator stand, 3.72 x 3.12.F4 & F6 - West & north cypress pine windbreakF5 - Palm trees 5m east of F4.F7 - Unidentified introduced tree.F8 - cement slab approx 3.10m x 2.00m.F9 - Row of 31 boxthorn trees.F10 - surface artefact scatter 2.70m x 1.70m (handmade bricks & bluestone)F11 - Unidentified fruit tree.F12 - Large mound approx 10m in length, possible dump site.F13 - Two large cypress pines, south end of F1/nHeritage Inventory Key Components: F1-bluestone footings & cement slab - possible outbuilding. F2-bluestone house footings 10m x 15m (disturbed), F3-weatherboard shed 3.72m x 3.12m, F4-7, F9, F11, F13-cypress windbreaks, boxthorn hedge fruit & palm trees, F8-cement slab, F12-mound, F10-artefact scatter.
