BAIRNSDALE WHARF - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: 1863-1870 site of Punt Crossing. A wharf was constructed at this point in 1873, below the bridge which replaced the punt. The wharf was used up until the 1930s for commercial purposes/ The structural component was destroyed in 1990.

BAIRNSDALE WHARF - Heritage Inventory Description
The site of the second Bairnsdale Wharf (1873-c1930s) and former punt crossing (1863-1870)
Heritage Inventory Significance: Local. The site is associated with a period of intensive commercial activity in Bairnsdale over the late 19th and early 20th century. Although the structural components of the site has been dismantled, there is sure archaeological potential, both in the river bank and river bed.
Recorded by: Andrew Long Date Recorded: 8 May 1999 Heritage Inventory Site Features: A timber revetted embankment (19m long) consisting of a row of timber piles bolted to a framework of horizontal beams. Pipework exposed in the edge of the bank indicates the presence of buried beams below the current turf. the riverbank is clearly artificial at this point.
