Statement of Significance
The Pipe Stand near the former Turncocks Residence & Fire Station, St. Arnaud has significance as an intact example of a late 19th century water device, particularly used to fill the fire carts.
The Pipe Stand is aesthetically and scientifically significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates original design qualities in the construction of the round, tapered cast iron stand and arm, adorned with a decorative urn.
The Pipe Stand is historically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with the development of the St. Arnaud Fire Brigade from the late 19th century (or at least prior to 1910), and also with Richard Brain, metal worker.
Overall, the Pipe Stand is of LOCAL significance.
