Statement of Significance
The shops at 88-98 Napier Street, St. Arnaud is historically and architecturally significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level. It is associated with commercial developments in St. Arnaud in the early twentieth century and demonstrates some important design qualities. These qualities include the rendered parapet with string course and incised panels, the remaining unpainted red brick chimney, the remaining section of skillion street verandah with corrugated galvanised roofing, and some remaining sections of cast frieze and brackets. Although possibly a later alteration, the deep blue and red shopfront tiles and brass shopfronts contribute to the streetscape.
