MERRI RIVER HUT SITES, WOLLASTON RD, WARRNAMBOOL - History
Huts possibly date to 1846. Allotments 8 and 9, Parish of Yangery, County of Villiers purchased from the Crown by Thomas Manifold in 1847. Manifold occupied Grasmere, his home station, north along the Merri River. A 1922 plan shows sub-division of Manifolds Estate to form Wollaston Estate. Two hut sites shown an on 1856 plan of the Settled District of Warrnambool. Located in griazing land east of the Merri River. No surface indications of these sites; however, the property was heavily grassed. Possible area of bluestones and depressions located but ground exposure required./n
