Romsey-Lancefield RSL Sub-Branch - Veterans Description for Public
The Romsey-Lancefield RSL Sub-Branch was established in 1933. The Romsey Examiner records several of the early community events that the Hall hosted: On Anzac Day 1933 a successful 'Smoke Social' was held and later that year in October, a Gala Dance at which a demonstration of machine gun firing took place. In 1935, the RSL was recorded as having between 50 -100 paid up members.
In January 1946, Lancefield Second World War veterans joined the Romsey RSL prompting a new charter to be issued and the name to be changed to the Romsey-Lancefield RSL Sub-Branch on 30th March 1946. On 14th October 1961, new club-rooms were opened with a public afternoon tea in recognition of the community's support of the RSL over the years.
