Statement of Significance
Designed under Public Works District Architect J T Kelleher, and thought to be influenced by his assistant, J R Brown, this former post office and residence possesses the picturesque detailing and form of other important buildings designed under Kelleher but its timber construction and remote location are uncommon to this group.
Built in 1885-86, it remains Walhalla's only public building.
Despite an addition to the south-west corner to provide a lobby and counter, the building possesses valuable original attributes such as early internal paint colours and fittings, a picket fence and a mature exotic garden which envelopes the residential section.
