Statement of Significance
This building is architecturally significant at a local level for its contribution to the townscape at the edge of town and country as well as the amount of careful detailing and balanced exterior. Camperdown Butter Factory is also historically and socially significant as the successful outcome of the land redevelopment movement in the Western District. Its position at the front of the new modern factory exemplifies the strength and continuance of the dairying industry in the Western District and links the old to the new. Technologically the company was at the forefront of many technological advances such as the Bell CSIRO automatic cheesemaker and although this was used in the later additions to the original building, the fact that the company maintained its position on the original site, and maintained its position at the leading edge of dairy technology, strenghtens the case of this building.
