Statement of Significance
Curious Growth Form
An unusual and rare example of a palm with multiple growing points. Normally Phoenix canariensis has only one growing point. In this case, three side trunks have developed from the main trunk and one of these has also developed a growth point. The side trunks are in danger of breaking off and may require propping. This is the only known example of a multi-trunked Phoenix canariensis in Victoria.
The tree is located onthe median strip on the Princes Highway near the Yarram turnoff, next to War Memorial.
