House; 26 Sydney Street, ALBION - Physical Description 1
A relatively elaborate timber Edwardian/Federation house with return verandah featuring timber fretwork ornament, the gable ends with timber and stucco 'half-timbered' effect. This house appears to be of similar design to one illustrated in the Real Property Annual of 1916 and described as 'Sydney Street cottage cost £400' and under the page heading 'artisans' homes at Sunshine"'. However, the verandah posts shown in the 1916 illustration are a little different, possibly having been replaced. The chimneys have also gone. The placing of the gables, including one at an unusual corner angle, appears to match the illustration. The layout of the house incorporates a central entry hall opening into the front drawing and dining rooms and connecting via a small "L" shaped passage, to two bedrooms and kitchen in the rear half. A scullery was off the kitchen and bath room off the passage.
