House, 81 McMahon Street, ST ARNAUD - Physical Description 1
The house at 81 McMahon Street, St. Arnaud, forms part of a small group of three significant, single storey, horizontal weatherboard, hipped roofed Victorian styled houses at this end of McMahon Street.
This house has a medium front setback, and one wide setback forming the driveway. The front is characterised by an open grassed area with very few plantings.
The single storey, horizontal weatherboard, Victorian styled house is characterised by a hipped roof form, together with a return concave verandah that projects at the front and side. The side verandah has been infilled at a later date. All the roof forms are clad in lapped galvanised corrugated iron. An early unpainted brick chimney with a dentillated top adorns the roofline. An introduced galvanised steel flue also punctuates the front roofline. Narrow overhangs and worked timber brackets adorn the roofline.
The front facade has a centrally located and early doorway, with early elaborate framing and side and high lights. The flanking front timber framed double hung windows are also early, while the doorway at the side appears to have been introduced.
Early or appropriate decorative features of the design include the timber verandah columns, and the valances and brackets.
