House, 38 Ligar Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The house at 38 Ligar Street, Stawell, is set on an average sized allotment for the area, with a substantial front setback. The surrounds largely comprise rudimentary grassed areas.
The symmetrical, single storey, horizontal timber weatherboard Victorian styled house is characterised by a steeply pitched hipped roof form, together with an encircling ogee form verandah. These roof forms are clad in lapped and grey painted galvanised corrugated iron. Two introduced brick chimneys adorn the roofline. Narrow overhangs with timber brackets are features of the eaves.
An early feature of the design is the encircling verandah. It is supported by early stop chamfered timber columns with projecting moulded timber capitals. These columns supported early cast iron brackets and framed cast iron valances.
Other early features of the design include the projecting faceted bay windows, timber framed double hung windows, and the central timber framed doorway with highlight.
Towards the rear appear to be later alterations and additions.
