Mornington Boer War Memorial Troughs - Veterans Description for Public
The Mornington Boer War Memorial Troughs are dedicated to the Australian Mounted Riflemen who fought in South Africa. The plaque's inscription states that 16,175 men and 16,314 horses left Australia to serve in the Boer War from 1899-1901. The total loss of life was 518, while the casualty list was 1400. The memorial also acknowledges the service of Australian Nursing Sisters in South Africa and the service of Australians in early colonial conflicts such as Sudan (1865) and the Boxer Rebellion (1900-1901).
