Statement of Significance
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The Federation Queen Anne style villa no known as "Chesterfield" was erected in 1909-1910 for J P McCabe Doyle from designs prepared by Geelong architects, Laird and Buchan in association with fashionable and avant-garde Melbourne designer Robert J Haddon. The residence is a distinctive example of this popular early 20th century style in Geelong and a noted pre-war work of the now long established firm of Laird and Buchan. The picturesque qualities are reinforced by the use of complex roof forms, timber decoration and encircling verandahs.
