STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE - GRC Historic Places Documentation Sheet
Four Colonial Georgian style single storey brick and stone cottages were erected I 1862-63 for unknown investor, and extended in 1894-95 for John Stock by construction of a brick first floor addition with elaborate cast iron balcony verandahs. The terrace, showing the evolution of architectural style over the period 1860-1895 is a rare example of this building type in Geelong, and notable for the integration of the early Georgian Style details. The group is unified by the late Victorian iron balcony verandahs which are a distinctive element.

Terraces - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION
A row of terraces which were constructed in stages and rare in Geelong. The lower floors of No's 10 and 12 are built of Barrabool Hills stone with quoining around the windows and doors giving a banded effect (similar to that on Culloden Castle). No's 6 and 8 and the whole of the top floor appears to have been added in the 1870's. the verandah and supporting brick wings also appear to date from the 1870's. these later works are executed in dark brick and complimented by simple timber and elaborate cast iron decorative frieze and balustrade. The wash-house and bathrooms were added in 1922. alterations have included the painting of the ground floor facades. Internal alterations and some external restoration was carried out 1986.
