Statement of Significance
What is significant?
This gabled red brick row house is part of a group that make up one of the distinctive developments at Yarraberg in the early 1900s as a series of red brick row houses in Burnley and Appleton Streets designed by the noted architect, Henry Hardie Kemp, and owned by his wife, Charlotte. Notable elements include the dog-toothed gable, Tudor style, chimney form and side porch.
How is it significant?
The house is aesthetically and historically significant (National Estate Register Criteria E1, A4) to the locality of Richmond and the City of Yarra.
Why is it significant?
The building is significant:
- for its good representation of a key period in the City's history;
- for its distinctive form and detailing; and
- for the association with the noted designer, HH Kemp and his wife Charlotte.
