STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The two storey brick residence at the corner of Yarra Street and Ryrie Street, Geelong, was erected in 1897 for eminent local medical practitioner, Dr Patrick Croker. The architects of this unusual Queen Anne style villa were Tombs and Durran, a young architectural firm who assumed control of the old established firm of Joseph Watts in 1890. The villa is constructed in a style which reflects contemporary American design trends of the late 19th century combined with emerging reference to an Australian Style. The residence has a commanding prescence situated at the termination of a notable Yarra Street streetscape.
