Statement of Significance
SIGNIFICANCE: »Part of the St Mary's complex, this naive example of the Gothic Revival is an interesting foil to the much more sophisticated neighbour, the church.
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
Monivae Hall
124 Lonsdale Street
Part of the St Mary's Primary School this humble hall is of local historic and architectural significance. It is built on land at first surveyed for sale at auction by the Crown but then reserved for the Catholic Church. It is an interesting foil to its sophisticated neighbour. The date of construction is not known but on stylistic and other grounds it appears to date from the turn of the century. The hall has associations with Monivae College, the major Catholic school in Hamilton. It is substantially intact and in good condition. With its severely formal planting it makes a strong and individual contribution to the streetscape
