REVISED STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE, CONTEXT, 2009
What is significant? The c1922 residence and the surrounding farm site, as far as the Yarra River (to the south east of the site) and otherwise to a radius of 50 metres from the residence.
How is it significant? The c1922 residence is historically and aesthetically significant to the Shire of Nillumbik.
Why is it significant? The c1922 residence is historically significant because of its associations with the notable anthropologist Donald Thomson, who lived there from the mid 1930s (Criterion H). Also because it is one of the few substantial homes erected in the Shire during the late 19th and early decades of the 20th century, and illustrates Eltham's development into a desirable residential municipality (Criteria A & B). The property is one of the last in the Eltham area to survive with its farm setting intact (Criterion B).
