Statement of Significance
The former Kyneton Cellars, built in 1859 as a grocery, wine and spirit shop for John Maxwell, is architecturally significant at a local level. It is a very early and substantial bluestone building with a stuco facade with pilasters finished with Keane's cement and has unusual front chimney detailing. Its significance is enhance by the interior retaining much of the original fabric. The combination of shop and residence beside is unusual
