Historical significance
The first church service in Newstead was held under the widespread branches of this tree in 1854. The tree predates European settlement and is a well known local landmark.
A fine example of E. camaldulensis and was probably a mature tree when Major Mitchell passed by in 1836. He wrote of these magnificent Red Gums scattered over the 'grassy flats' where he rested his bullocks on the night of September 27, 1836.
