This place is included on the Victorian Heritage Inventory, for its potential to contain historical archaeological remains associated with the settlement and growth of early Melbourne. Under the terms of the Heritage Act 2017 there is protection for all historical archaeology sites and objects in the state.

My mother, Alison McLeod-Sharpe, worked during WWII in Victoria Barracks for the War Department. She worked there only a few years. In 1946 she left as a war bride to marry my father, an American Marine, on the Monterey. Only in 2008 did I discover that A-Block and J-Block were designed by her great grandfather on her mother's side, Gustav Joachimi, a fact that delighted and surprised her.
