REID'S MILL - Heritage Inventory Description
Former timber mill site. Part of mill is overgrown with vegetation. A tramway formation, 3 kilometres long, along Blackwood Creek has been cleared as a walking track. Only a few relics remain: a section of timber bridge and several repaired "make-ups" across creeks. The mine site is heavily overgrown. Excavations include a 3m deep machinery pit and trenches for the underfloor shaft and belts. Concrete blocks at the eastern end of the mill mark the steam engine and boiler foundations. A small sawdust heap is north of the mill on the hillside. Three circular saw blades were located on the site. The mill operated 1920-38. Dimensions: 20x40m.
