HALL'S SAWMILL, BLACKWOOD - History
ROBERT HALL ESTABLISHED THE MILL SITE ON WHISKEY CREEK IN 1889. THE MILL WAS OF MODERATE CAPACITY AND THE LODS WERE BROUGHT IN BY JINKER AND WAGON FROM ALL AROUND THE MILL. THE SITE WAS WORKED ON AND OFF UNTIL 1911.HALL'S SAWMILL, BLACKWOOD - Interpretation of Site
THE MILL LAYOUT IS UNUSUAL. THE MILL FLOOR IS EXCAVATED TO FORM THE TERRACES FOR THE BENCHES, ENGINES AND SKIDS. A SAWDUST TRENCH IS EVIDENT AT THE SOUTH END, WHILE ANOTHER THREE TRENCHES APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN USED FOR UNDER-FLOOR SHAFT-DRIVES OR MINOR BENCHES. AN OUTLET TRACK LEADS TO THE PRESENT-DAY HALLS TRACK WHILE NUMEROUS JINKER TRACKS REMAIN ON THE HILLSIDE BEHIND THE MILL.
