State - one of the best preserved sawmill tramway systems from the 19th-century in Victoria.

TELEGRAPH (GRAVES') SAWMILL & TRAMWAY - History
THE TELEGRAPHY SAWMILL COMPANY WAS FORMED AROUND 1860 AND INSTALLED ITS THIRD MILL ON THE WEST BANK OF STONY CREEK, SOUTH OF DAYLESFORD IN 1872. AN OUTLET TRAMWAY THE MILL TO DAYLESFORD-BALLAN ROAD. IN THE MID 1870S A LOG TRAMWAY EXTENDED SOUTH-EAST FROM THE MILL ALONG THE COURSE OF STONY CREEK. BY THE MID-1880S THE TRAM WAS BUILT TOWARDS THE HEAADWATERS OF COCKATOO CREEK. GEORGE GRAVES MANAGED THE MILL FROM 1879 UNTIL ITS CLOSURE IN 1893.TELEGRAPH (GRAVES') SAWMILL & TRAMWAY - Interpretation of Site
THE MILL SITE MEASURE C200MX50 AND IS DEFINED BY EARTHWORKS FOR THE LOG TRAMWAY CUTTING. BEHIND THE MILL, IMPRESSIONS IN THE GROUND FOR THE LOG DECK, A LARGE EXCAVATION FOR THE VERTICAL BREAKING-DOWN SAW, A SAWDUST TRENCH, THE REMAINS OF THE BOILER SETTING, A WELL FOR THE WATER SUPPLY, AND THE FORMATION FOR THE OUTLET TRAMWAY. REMAINS OF THE MILL SETTLEMENT ARE LOCATED ON A LOW RISE C200M TO THE NORTH.
