Statement of Significance
Myers Road represents a diminishing State resource of vegetated road reserve combined with typical Mornington Peninsula rolling landscape. The protection of this resource, which has biological and scientific as well as aesthetic importance, is essential to the maintenance of remnant ecosystems of the area.
Aesthetic Value
The 1975 Recorded Landscape Citation (National Trust, 1975) referred to the landscape value of Myers Road as follows: "Something of the Peninsula's essential character and variety is provided by these roadside reserves. There is a crisp interface between the natural and the man-made, and the eye is teased by occasional glimpses of long distance views. Fine elevated views over the Western Port Bay and Phillip Island can be observed from the western sector of the road". In terms of its aesthetic value, Myers Road is of Local Significance.
Historic Value
Myers Road is of Local Significance as an example of the early Crown subdivision of the southern Mornington Peninsula and of the 1970s community action to maintain the vegetation on the reserve.
Scientific Value
Context Pty Ltd (1996) provided a useful study of the conservation value of the Peninsula roadsides, including Myers Road. From this report, it is clear that, despite the narrow verges on Myers Road, the powerlines along part of its length, and the presence of weed species, several sections of the roadside retain attractive remnants of the Messmate Stringybark dominated Sclerophyll Forest. In one section there is a partial canopy and a relatively intact understorey. On the south side, east of Balnarring Road, the adjoining Buckleys Nature Reserve provides continuity of natural vegetation. Context (1996) ranked the conservation value of the vegetation as "high" or "medium" along about 1.5 kilometres of the 6 kilometres between Coolart Road and Tubbarubba Road.
In terms of the remnant flora which it contains, Myers Road is of Local Significance for its scientific value.
Social Value
Myers Road serves a local community. It carries low traffic volumes relative to more major roads nearby, and it is of Local Significance.
