Statement of Significance
The house at 7 Anne Street, Stawell, has significance as a predominantly intact example of a Victorian style. Possibility built in the late 19th or early 20th century, the house is reflective of some of the residential developments in Stawell at that time. The house appears to be in good condition when viewed from the street.
The house at 7 Anne Street is historically and architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with residential developments in Stawell in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It also demonstrates original design qualities of a Victorian style. These qualities include the hipped roof form, together with the hipped bullnosed verandah that projects towards the street frontage. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the single storey height, horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding, unpainted galvanised corrugated steel roof cladding, face brick chimney with corbelled top, narrow eaves, decorative cast iron verandah valances and brackets, detailing of the original verandah column capitals attached to the front wall at the rear of the verandah, central four panelled timber door with sidelights and highlights and the flanking timber framed double hung windows.
Overall, the house at 7 Anne Street is of LOCAL significance.

House, 7 Anne Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The house at 7 Anne Street, Stawell, is set on a sizeable allotment and has a substantial front setback comprising an open grassed area with a large exotic tree, other trees and shrubs and perimeter garden beds. There is a central brick path to the house and there is no fence along the front boundary.
The single storey, horizontal timber weatherboard, Victorian styled house is characterised by a hipped roof form, together with a hipped bullnosed verandah that projects towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in unpainted galvanised corrugated steel. An early face brick chimney with a corbelled top adorns the roofline at one side. Narrow overhangs are features of the eaves.
An early feature of the design is the front verandah. It is supported by introduced timber posts and has decorative cast iron valances and brackets. Evidence of the early round columns with decorative capitals is shown on the detailing attached to the front walls at the rear of the verandah).
Other early features of the design include the central four panelled timber door with sidelights and highlights and the flanking timber framed double hung windows.
