Dana Street State School No.33 - Physical Description 1
This building was constructed in 1856 as the first National School in West Ballarat. The building has subsequently been substantially altered. The large window to the eastern gable was installed in 1907 within the original relieving arch. An original bellcote has been removed, and a verandah added spoiling the original elaborate entrance. The large brick chimneys have been removed.
More intact examples survive elsewhere in Victoria of simple Gothic basalt school buildings. However this building is of historical importance in a local context. It provides an interesting streetscape element, and appears to be in good conditionDana Street State School No.33 - Integrity
