Ballarat Railway Complex Goods Sheds - Physical Description 1
The goods sheds were constructed by Irving Glover and Co., whose tender of £18,326.0s.6d. was accepted on 4.4.1862.
This building is a huge version of the many basalt railway goods sheds constructed on the Ballarat-Geelong and Melbourne to Bendigo lines. It would appear to have been constructed in 1862 to its present size~ as indicated in the contract sum, when compared with the s1ngle carriage shed and by the early photograph of the Station. This building is a long double gabled shed with arched rail entrances at the east end, and with segmental arched side goods doors. There are now a number of modern awnings over the doors.
The building is substantially intact, apart from the awnings and late~ roofing.
This building is of importance because of its scale, construction materials and workmanship, and its relationship to the other buildings of this important railway terminal complex.Ballarat Railway Complex Goods Sheds - Integrity
