Statement of Significance
Statement of Significance as recorded under the Queenscliff Heritage Study 2009
The site is of social and historical significance as the premises of the former Cobb & Co. stables. The advent of Cobb & Co. operating from Queenscliff allowed easier access to the settlement. The development of affordable transport from Geelong, Melbourne and further afield was key to the popularity of Queenscliff as a seaside resort. Although the paddle steamers and railway soon became more convenient; travel overland via horse and cart or carriage was the only means of transport for those early tourists. Cobb & Co. remains synonymous with coach transport throughout much of Australia to the present day.

Site of former Cobb & Co. Stables, 37 Learmonth Street - Physical Description 1
Extract from the 2009 study
The original Cobbs & Co. site is now split into two separate lots. The southern section contains the original stone barn with an adjoining timber clad shed to the west fronting Learmonth Street. To the rear (east) is an L-shaped two storey dwelling which provides accommodation for the dive school. The northern section of the original complex (33 Learmonth Street) contains six modern two storey dwellings with a row of garages to the rear.
The flanking wall of the stone barn is visible along the shared driveway between the two plots No. 37 and No. 33 Learmonth Street. The adjoining timber shed fronts Learmonth Street and has two small square windows within the west gable, above asymmetrically positioned sliding doors. The roof is of corrugated metal sheet and appears to be punctuated with several roof lights near the apex. The buildings to the south currently operate as a dive centre and alterations to the fabric of the building include the installation of the dive pool, as well as some external alterations such as the door to the west elevation and the skillion roof addition along the south side.
