Statement of Significance
The Dana Street School is important as the first National School in West Ballarat and for its historical associations. The building was designed by the important Geelong architects of the time, Backhurst & Reynolds.The building provides an interesting example of an early Gothic basalt school building. It has been substantially altered, but as a surviving early bluestone school, it is worthy of preservation.Peter Lalor, of Eureka Stockade fame, was a member of the School Committee from 1859.Classified 20/03/1980.Revised: Classified: 03/08/1998.
