Bonegilla Obstacle/Bayonet Course - Physical Description 1
Near the north-west corner of the West Bonegilla Base there is a bayonet training course and obstacle course, called 'Obstacle & Run, Jump, Dodge Course' on an Army site plan. It is located between sites 5 and 6 on Hyder site plan Figure A5. It consists of a series of shallow trenches, barbed wire entanglements, wooden obstacles and bayonet targets, all set amongst small trees. The bayonet targets are made of 2-metre stacks of old car tyres secured by steel posts, with much-stabbed chest-high target areas marked on the tyres with red paint. This is an ephemeral construction, which should be noted as one of the few specifically military facilities on the base, but which would be difficult to conserve in the long term. Army No.0462/292.
