The XXXX War memorial is of local historic and social significance to Baw Baw Shire.
Why is it significant?
Historically, it is significant as a one of a series of memorials erected after World War One that provides tangible evidence of the impact of that conflict upon local communities. (HERCON criterion A)
It is socially significant as a place has strong and enduring associations with the XXX community and remains the focus of remembrance day commemorations. The enduring connection is demonstrated by the memorials to other conflicts that have been added to the memorial over time. (HERCON criterion G)

Thorpdale War Memorial Obelisk - Veterans Description for Public
The Thorpdale Memorial Obelisk, on Station Street, was erected in 1921 to commemorate the service of local district soldiers in the First World War. The memorial subsequently been rededicated to the servicemen who fought in the Second World War, Korea, Malaya, Borneo and Vietnam.The obelisk was constructed out of rough stone granite and is flanked by two low walls with the name plaques of those who served.
