Ballarat Army Camp (showgrounds) - Veterans Description for Public
The Ballarat Army Camp Army resembled a collection of the typical accommodation P1 huts built during the Second World War. The Second World War produced the greatest number and dispersal of defence buildings and sites ever experienced in Victoria. In general terms the style and construction followed the practice of the mid 1930s with the red brick style. In 1941, after the Japanese entered the war, defence efforts became more urgent and red brick was discarded in favour of timber framed buildings clad with corrugated galvanised iron or asbestos sheets.
