Talbot Boer War Memorial Pillar - Veterans Description for Public
The Talbot Memorial, in the Soldier's Memorial Park, comprises of a polished black granite pillar and urn on a stone base.The memorial is specifically dedicated to a local soldier who fought in the Boer War, Robert Westrup Salmon. The inscription reads "Erected by his friends in memory of Captain Robert Westrup Salmon VMR, 1st Victorian Contingent Staff Australian Regiment who died on service at Nauwnport S. Africa 16 March 1900." It originally stood outside the post office at the corner of Camp Street and Heales Street.
