Sir John Monash Monument - Veterans Description for Public
A bronze statue of Sir John Monash (b.1865-d.1931) is located on the corner of Birdwood Avenue and Government House Drive in the Kings Domain, Melbourne. It was unveiled on the 12th November 1950, by the Right Honourable William McKell K.C., Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia. The monument resembles Sir John Monash in military uniform astride a charger, and is mounted on a stone pedestal. The tablet on the base of the monument is inscribed: "General Sir John Monash C.M.G., K.C.B.,V.D.,soldier and engineer, Commander, the Australian Corps France 1918; Chairman, State Electricity Commission 1921-1931; 1865-1931".
