RUINS, WESLEYAN METHODIST CHURCH - History
1854: Mr Joseph Chapman establishes an active congregation
1855: described as a weatherboard chapel (36x18ft) seating 120
1858: the property is listed as a stone church (30x18ft) seating 150. The weatherboard chapel is sold.
1860: the church received rent for the schoolhouse,until the purchase of the weatherboard building attchaed to the church. Construction of outhouses.
1864: additions to schoolhouse. A new church is built (35x20ft).
1865: the church property is described as 1 rood of land with a new brick church erected to hold 170 people. The stone church is now used as a schoolhouse.
1878: timber stables erected
1880: timber fence around church erected.
1921: services cease
1970s: property sold by the church

The ruins of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Vaughan, reflect the early settlement of Vaughan for mining purpose and are highly archaeologically significant.

RUINS, WESLEYAN METHODIST CHURCH - Heritage Inventory Description
Brick and stone ruins of the 1864/8 Wesleyan Methodist chapel. Remaining stone walls show the outline of the chapel with three pointed arched windows along each side still visible, as is the 1868 addition at the rear. Stone window sills, some remnant flooring and a large peppercorn tree.
