QUEENSCLIFF BIGHT SEAWALL AND GROYNES - History
Several timber sand groynes reinforced with bluestone, and a sandstone seawall were installed in the late 1920s/ 1930s in an effort to curtail erosion along the rear of Beach St houses in Queenscliff Bight.QUEENSCLIFF BIGHT SEAWALL AND GROYNES - Interpretation of Site
These features were probably those installed during the 1920s/30s to retard foreshore erosion, and were shown in a 1920s plan of the area. The sandstone seawall was probably installed later when the Cut construction and subsequent Swan Ponds Breakwater led to massive erosion and flooding around the fishermens houses in Beach and Bay St.
