VINEYARD ROAD HISTORIC SITE - History
Land purchased from the Crown in 1856 by John Aitken. A 1977 topographic map shows 2 structures, both with separate driveways. A 1984 map shows only one structure. No structures remain.VINEYARD ROAD HISTORIC SITE - Interpretation of Site
Paddock was the site of two houses. One was destroyed between 1977 - 1984, the other post 1984.
VINEYARD ROAD HISTORIC SITE - Archaeological Significance
Ground surface visibility was low. However, the site appears to maintain a low level of integrity and intactness. There is potential for evidence to remain associated with the two structures that were formerly located on the site.
VINEYARD ROAD HISTORIC SITE - Historical Significance
The site is of local historical significance for its association with the development of Diggers Rest and local farming industry.

VINEYARD ROAD HISTORIC SITE - Heritage Inventory Description
Updated description: Site contains pine and gum windrows; cobbled driveway aligned north - south from Diggers Rest - Coimadai Road; piles of dumped building materials; windmill and sump; artefact scatter at northwest portion of site. Area appears to be high disturbed. Low ground surface visibility.

Previous description: Numbner of pine windrows and rows of sugar gums; areas of dumped bricks and bluestone. Pines lining driveway leads to area of mounds and depressions, possible in situ line of bluestones and some brick artefact scattes - glass, Hoffman tiles, tin, corrugated iron, wood. Another cobbled driveway leads north from Digger's Rest-Coimadai Rd. Windmill amongst rows of pines with square concrete stump.
