Statement of Significance
An English Oak (Quercus robur), planted before 1879 by antimony mine manager Pierce Boardman, who was also a talented artist. He died some time later after a fall at the mine. The area was subdivided into 1.5 acre lots, with the oak passing into private hands. There was a well near the tree, but it was filled after a child fell in and drowned. The oak is now in a front yard where there is a path made from hand-made bricks, and it is possible that these bricks were originally part of the well surrounds, before it was filled in.
