STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
St Joseph's College at Newtown is an interesting complex of buildings of diverse style and construction built over a period 1957-1903, originally a Catholic orphanage and school since 1935 as St Josephs College. The 1857 Italiante buildings, extended, is a distinguished early work of architects Shaw and Dowden and marred only by construction of a ponderous double store balconied cloister in recent times. St Augustine's orphanage is an important Geelong institution which continues operations at Highton
