Caulfield Racecourse Memorial - Veterans Description for Public
The Caulfield Racecourse Memorial comprises of a small stone monument and plaque located in the racecourse grounds. The memorial commemorates the contribution of the Victorian Amateur Turf Club and the Caulfield Racecourse, where thousands of soldiers joined the 2nd Australian Imperial Force during the Second World War. During the war, the army used the racecourse as a recruiting depot, barracks and clearing house for the medical examinations of young recruits.The memorial was unveiled on August 12th 1995, to mark the 50th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
