Kokoda Track Memorial Walk - Veterans Description for Public
The Kokoda Track Memorial Walk is a fivekilometre track from the Ferntree Gully Rangers Office to the One Tree Hill Picnic Ground in Ferntree Gully, in the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges Shire. The track is a 1000 step climb that attempts to convey part of the soldier's experience of traversing the Kokoda Trail in Papua Guinea during the Second World War between 1942-43. Throughout the track are plaques explaining the key sites of the original Kokoda Trail and also commemorating significant people who died on the trail such as journalist Damien Parer and Bruce Steel Kingsbury, who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
